The Koestner’s are from Grand Haven, Michigan, USA. In 2019, inspired by Bilbo Baggins leaving the Shire, they departed on their own adventure.
Danielle is a family physician and novice sailor. She recently learned to sail with the Grand River Sailing Club and we enjoyed racing with friends on Lake Michigan.
Kyle worked in the automotive industry for almost 25 years. He grew up in Richland, MI and began sailing dinghies with friends and in Boy Scouts. In the 1980’s his dad purchased a 210 which they refurbished together and raced on Gull Lake. He also raced Hobie Cats with his neighbor and Lightnings with his friend’s family. While living in Detroit, he crewed on a friend’s Crescent racing on the Detroit River.
The bigs, Kyla (13) and Charlie (10) caught the sailing bug racing with us on Lake Michigan. Emily and the littles (Peter and Thomas) love boats but had very limited sailing time.
